Life's a Beach

My friend Shelly's mom has a great 2-bedroom trailer in a campground in North Truro (on Cape Cod), so last week we spent a couple of days there along with Shelly and her 2-year-old daughter, Sofia. Zoe and Sofia play together pretty well (including wrestling--and, occasionally, squabbling--like siblings), so they enjoyed having some extended time together. And both Zoe and Rebecca loved the beach. Zoe particularly liked the hermit crabs, while Rebecca was thrilled to eat handfuls of sand.

I'm not sure why I thought that a trip to the beach with the girls (and without Jim) would be a "vacation," as it wasn't exactly restful for me. Rebecca was up every 2 hours at night and, of course, she still needs to be carried most of the time. Thankfully, Shelly was very understanding and helpful, and she took the older girls to the beach in the mornings while Rebecca napped so that I could have a few moments of down time. And all of the girls were real troupers, so there weren't too many meltdowns. We'll definitely head back there for camping trips when the girls are a little older!

In other news, Rebecca has just started crawling, and while her current pace is slow, I expect to be chasing her within a week or two. And Zoe has been so oppositional for the past few days that Jim and I are ready to tear our hair out! Let's hope it's just a phase. Sigh.
